Origins of The ESA
|
|
The English Shotokan Academy was officially formed in January 1990 by the
late Sensei Steve Cattle 6th Dan WKSA/JKA, Seen
here on the left. Steve was for many years a student of
Sensei Taiji Kase
and it was from his desire to pursue a more traditional form of Shotokan
karate that inspired him to form the ESA.
Following the untimely death of Sensei Cattle, it was felt that he was
irreplaceable as our Chief Instructor and so remains with us as our Founder.
Today the ESA is a fully constituted association, with a democratically
elected executive, responsible for the day to day management.
Our senior instructor's grades are internationally recognised through the WKSA / SRKHIA.
Uniquely we also have Sensei Dirk Heene 7th Dan, Chief Instructor to the Belgian Karate-do Shotokan Academy
(BKSA) as our Technical Advisor.
The ESA holds numerous courses through out the year
in locations around the country. For more information, see the
ESA Diary

Affiliated directly to Karate England.
The ESA's responsibilities lie in providing technical guidance to the
membership, the training of a squad to represent at National level and
the provision of an N.V.Q. coaching program designed to meet local
authority requirements.
